Argo Surety’s Holiday Toy Drive Benefits Chicago Families

The holiday season is a time for giving back and gathering with friends and family to appreciate each other’s company. By organizing a holiday toy drive and gift-wrapping party, Argo Surety employees in Chicago were able to spend time together while supplying gifts for families in need.

Team members from other business segments, including Argo Pro and Argo Environmental, also participated in the toy drive, which was affiliated with Volunteers of America of Illinois.

“This time of year gives families a special opportunity to celebrate with one another, and it means a lot knowing that we were able to be a small part of a family’s celebration,” says Ned Kennedy, Underwriting Associate, Argo Surety.

Holiday toy drive provides perspective

Argo Surety employees who participated in the event say that helping communities in need gives them perspective, making them more appreciative of what they have.

“I think many of us overlook how blessed we are to have family,” says Joseph Sciarrino, Credit Analyst, Argo Surety, “and it’s important to give our time to the less fortunate – especially during the holiday season.”

“It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the end-of-year frenzy,” says Kirsten Charlton, Chief Global Business Services and Innovation Officer.

“The stresses we have in our relatively privileged lives pale in comparison to those in our own communities who struggle every month – or every day – with basic needs.”

Teams bond over giving back

Charlton says that while giving back to the less fortunate in the community keeps each individual team member grounded, doing it together has added benefits.

“Giving back as a team demonstrates the power of one person acting and influencing another and another – and then we see what we can accomplish together,” she says.

Regina Gaebel, Assistant VP of Surety Claims, Counsel, says these community events are invaluable because they help employees from different departments connect and form bonds.

“There’s no better way to create meaningful and lasting relationships than to work together to make a difference in the lives of others,” Gaebel says.
