Argo Group Volunteers at Bowery Mission

Four Argo Surety employees helped support one of New York’s oldest homeless service agencies.

Each year, many Argo employees donate their time to non-profit organizations in the communities where they live and work. For the Argo Surety team, volunteering has become a quarterly tradition. That tradition continued when four employees lent a hand at The Bowery Mission in New York City – an organization that has served those suffering from homelessness, poverty and hunger since 1879.

Surety team members Adam Gutman, Kelly Gilman, Luke Schneider and Seamus Kerin spent a day reorganizing inventory in the Mission’s pantry and preparing lunches for distribution.

Small acts of kindness in a big city

For Senior Underwriter Adam Gutman, volunteering at the Mission was a meaningful experience, especially, he says, for someone like himself who lives in New York and understands that homelessness and food insecurity are large issues facing the city.

“The Mission has a dedicated staff and generous volunteers who work hard to prepare and distribute meals while also offering community programs,” he says. “It’s important that we support these initiatives as they have a positive impact on local communities.”

This work reaffirms that small acts of kindness can make a difference – even in a large city like New York.

Schneider, an Argo Surety commercial underwriter, says that the opportunity to give back to his community and to those in need became even more meaningful during the pandemic.

“Over the past year, so many people faced unimaginable challenges and hardships,” Schneider says. “I was fortunate to come out of the pandemic with my health and job, so giving back to the community is the least I can do. I am proud to work for a team that values selflessness as much as Argo Surety.”

Helping employees make time to volunteer

Argo Group also gives employees eight hours of paid time off each year for volunteering, which they can use to support non-profit organizations like The Bowery Mission or to participate in local fundraising events. This reflects the company’s commitment to community involvement and personal wellness. In fact, in 2020 alone, Argo employees completed more than 700 hours of volunteer service.
